Low contrast: phones may not find the code. Pick a darker corner color.
What this tool does and does not do
It writes your GTIN into the correct address format and checks the check digit, the 14-digit padding and the order of batch and serial number, following the GS1 Digital Link URI syntax.
It does not certify the printed code. Whether a code passes a retail scanner depends on print quality, size and the retailer's software. GS1's retail guideline gives a module size of 0.396 to 0.990 mm and a blank border of 4 modules for a QR code, and notes that a logo over the code reduces reliability. Test with real scanners.
It does not issue or verify a product number. A GTIN comes from GS1 membership, and the tool cannot tell whether a number is registered to you.
The address must open something. The domain you enter has to answer with a page about the product. Test the printed code with a phone and with the scanners your retailer uses.
Last updated 13 October 2026. Checked against GS1 Digital Link URI Syntax and the GS1 2D retail implementation guideline. Standards change, so check the sources for the current wording.

Questions, answered
What is a GS1 Digital Link?
A web address that has a GS1 identifier, usually a product number (GTIN), written into it in a standard way, so one QR code can identify a product and open a web page.
Do I need a GTIN?
Yes. The tool needs a valid GTIN to build the address. GTINs are issued through GS1 membership; the tool does not create them.
What does the check digit do?
The last digit of a GTIN is calculated from the others. The tool recalculates it and tells you if the number you typed does not match.
Why is my 13-digit number shown with 14 digits?
GS1 Digital Link addresses write every GTIN with 14 digits, with leading zeros as filler.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The address and the QR code are made in your browser.
Is the code certified by GS1?
No. BestQR is an independent implementation, not affiliated with or endorsed by GS1, and the tool does not certify anything. It builds an address following the published GS1 Digital Link URI syntax.
Will it pass a checkout scanner?
Not guaranteed. That depends on the printed size, print quality, a clear border and the retailer's scanner software. Print a test and scan it with the scanners that matter to you.
