Many QR code services track every scan. They can show you a chart of scans by day, device and city. BestQR does not, and that is a deliberate choice. This page explains what that means, so you can decide whether it fits what you are printing.
What “no tracking” means here
- The code contains your link, not a link to our server. A phone that scans it goes straight to your page.
- BestQR never sees who scans a code, because we are not in the path.
- Codes are built in your browser. The links, texts and Wi-Fi passwords you type are not uploaded.
- There is no account, no expiry date and no subscription that can switch a printed code off.
What you give up
Because nothing passes through us, some things are not possible:
- You cannot change the destination of a printed code. To change it, print a new one. If you need to change links after printing, point the code at a page you control and change what that page does.
- There is no built-in scan counter in BestQR. You will not see “scans this week” on our site.
- No scan-time details such as device type or city come from us.
Why that is often the better choice
A tracked (“dynamic”) code works only while the service that owns the redirect keeps running and keeps your plan active. If the plan lapses, the printed code can start leading to an upgrade page. A static code on a menu, a business card or a shop window keeps working for as long as your own page does. Read more in static vs dynamic QR codes.
How to measure scans anyway
You do not need a redirect service to know which printed code brings visitors. Add campaign tags to the link before you make the code, and read the results in the analytics tool you already use on your website.
- Open the UTM QR code generator.
- Enter your page and give each placement its own tag: for example
utm_source=flyer,utm_medium=qr,utm_campaign=spring-sale. - Print each version in its own place — table, window, flyer.
- In your analytics tool, open the campaign or source report and compare visits.
You get counts per placement, and you also see what those visitors did after landing — which is more useful than a bare scan count.
When a tracked code makes sense
If you really need to change the destination after printing, or you need scan data without any website analytics, a dynamic code from a paid service is the right tool. Check what happens to your codes if you stop paying, and keep a copy of the underlying link.
Quick summary
- Static code: works forever, private, no counts, fixed destination.
- Static code with UTM tags: works forever, private, counts in your own analytics.
- Dynamic code: editable destination and built-in counts, but dependent on a service.
Frequently asked questions
Does BestQR collect any data about my codes?
No. Codes are generated in your browser, and the links and texts you enter are not sent to a server.
Can I see how many times my code was scanned?
Not from BestQR. Add UTM tags with the UTM generator and read visits in your own analytics tool, or use a dynamic code from a paid service.
Can I change where a printed code points?
No. A static code contains the final link. To change it, make and print a new code, or point the code at a page you control and change that page.
